Domaine Jerome Galeyrand 杰羅加利蘭德
His goal is to create terroir transparency in all the wines, where the sense of place is truly resembled in the wines
Jérôme Galeyrand’s estate was started in 2002 when he bought his first vineyard plot (0.05 ha of Les Retrait in Comblanchein), and carried out his own vinification that September. Since then, Jérôme expanded the holdings to five hectares of vines and harvests every year with a group of well-trained friends. Jérôme was originally from the Loire Valley, and does not come from a winemaking family. He worked for eight years in the cheese industry, but began his wine adventure by working for a couple of years at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1996. This inspired him to embark on his own project, after which he decided to enroll at the Wine Institute in Beaune.
For the wines, all vinification takes place in a small winery at his home along N974 in Gevrey-Chambertin/Brochon. His goal is to create terroir transparency in all the wines, where the sense of place is truly resembled in the wines. Viticulture is organic for 70% of the vineyards and sustainable for 30%. No pesticides is used in the vineyard, and vines are plowed to maintain oxygen levels in the topsoil to promote biodiversity. Harvest is done by hand with delicate selection and sorting. Some wines include whole cluster with limited use of SO2. All wines are aged in oak barrels - 12 months for whites, 18 to 24 months for reds. We are in love with Jérôme’s wines as they portray a level of elegance, precision and lightness that is often graceful on the palate yet having the density of fruit and structure that gives his wines the ageability. Production is roughly 2,000 cases a year, a minuscule amount compared to the surrounding neighbors. .
