Josh Aguiar is one of Southern California’s best improvising trumpeters. Drawn to jazz at an early age, Josh first apprenticed with the great Bobby Bradford, renowned for his work with Ornette Coleman and other avant-garde luminaries, before heading to Indiana University to study with David Baker, a pioneering giant in the field of jazz education. Josh earned a special commendation from Baker in his final year of study at Indiana University, a Performer’s Certificate, awarded only to the most outstanding students in any given year. He later earned his MFA from California Institute of the Arts and his DMA from the University of Southern California. While at CalArts he studied with Wadada Leo Smith, Charlie Haden, Larry Koonse, and Joe LaBarbera; at USC he learned from Bob Mintzer, Alan Pasqua, and Vince Mendoza.

As a professional, Josh has been active in the Southern California music scene for 20 years. He has recorded on numerous albums, notably the late Clare Fischer’s latin jazz album, “Ritmo!,” which garnered a Grammy in 2013. In 2020, he was featured as a soloist on the legendary big band arranger Mike Barone’s last album, “Brazil.” In that same year, he was featured on bassist Igor Kogan’s superlative small group album, “In a Big City,” which also included multiple Grammy nominated vocalist Tierney Sutton. He is a soloist in Dr. Scott Jeppesen’s Rocky Mountain Jazz Collective, a modern jazz repertory orchestra based in Montana. From 2000-2003, he lived in Taipei, Taiwan, where he studied Chinese, worked as a translator, and was in demand both as a jazz soloist and as a sideman in the Taiwanese pop scene, playing on various recordings and touring with the great Sticky Rice Band.

He has taught extensively at all levels. In 2023 he was appointed jazz trumpet professor at California State University Northridge (CSUN), home to one of Los Angeles’s premier jazz departments. Additionally, since 2015 he has taught a variety of jazz and music theory-related courses at Santa Monica College, consistently regarded as one of the best community college music programs in greater Los Angeles.

His playing is noted for a balance of traditional and modern elements, and a lyrical combination of freedom and structure. In addition to the trumpet, Josh is a highly competent pianist and composer. Also evident in his music is the assimilation of classical music influences, reflecting his years of conservatory study. A consummate professional and dedicated artist, he is comfortable in a variety of genres and settings.

吉他/低音提琴演奏家林煒盛出生於台灣台南市，台灣大學哲學系畢業，退伍後赴美國攻讀爵士低音提琴碩士，2002獲得紐約州立大學(Purchase college，State Univ. of NY)音樂碩士學位(master of music)，畢業後在紐約展開低音提琴職業演奏生涯，為目前極少數在紐約從事全職樂手的台灣人。

林煒盛在紐約曾與許多知名的爵士樂手合作，包括Ralph Lalama、Bill Mays、Bob Dorough、Joe Cohn、Bobby Porcelli、T.S. Monk、Lewis Nash、Eddie Bert等等；演奏地點遍及美國東岸各大爵士樂俱樂部如Blue Note、Birdland、Iridium、Lenox Lounge、Cleopatra’s Needle、Small’s, Deer Head Inn等。

林煒盛並曾受國際主流爵士媒體All About Jazz New York青睞予以報導，2006年10月由名樂評Donald Elfman為其個人專輯”Gone With the Wind”撰寫樂評並給予佳評，而All About Jazz更曾於2007年7月選擇他為當月值得聆聽人物(Listen Up!)之一。

2014年，因為兩年前在臺灣救援的老狗林熊寶年事已高，行動不便，決定結束紐約職業樂手生涯搬回台灣照顧老犬，除了在臺灣從事動保志工之外，仍然繼續在臺灣從事繁忙的職業樂手工作至今。

Guitarist/Bassist WeiSheng Lin was born in Tainan, Taiwan . He began to study double bass at the second year of college . After one year , he was playing professionally with local musicians in Taipei .

In 1999 , WeiSheng moved to New York to pursue graduate studies at State University of New York ,Purchase College . While in school ,he studied with Todd Coolman and Dennis Irwin .

WeiShneg finished his graduate studies in 2002 .Since then , he has been very active in New York jazz scene . He has played in many New York jazz clubs , such as Blue Note ,Birdland , Iridium ,Lenox Lounge , Cleopatra’s Needle , Small’s ,etc . He has performed with Jon Faddis , Bill Mays , Ralph Lalama , Don Sickler , Bob Dorough , Joe Cohn ,Bobby Porcelli, Grant Stewart T’S Monk ,Lewis Nash ,Eddie Bert ,Doug Munro,etc.

In 2006 , WeiSheng’s debut album “Gone With the Wind” was highly acclaimed by All About Jazz’s music critic Donald Elfman .Also, in July of 2007 , All About Jazz picked WeiSheng Lin as 2 of the “listen up” musicians of the month .

For the last few years , WeiSheng has been involved in Animal rescue scene in Taiwan ,especially for dogs . In 2014, WeiSheng decided to move back to Taiwan to take care of the senior dog “Shiung Bao”,who he has rescued years ago . While spending a lot of time volunteering in animal rescue scene, he still maintains his busy schedule as a professional musician .

Double Bass | 許巽舜 (Hsun-Shun Hsu)

台灣澎湖人；台灣大學土木工程學系畢業，主要演奏低音提琴及電貝斯。於大學時期開始接觸爵士樂，畢業後赴美 Berklee College of Music 進修，於 2016 取得 Diploma in Performance Major，在校期間與 John Baboian, Jon Hazilla, Ken Cervenka, Jason Palmer 等教師合奏。畢業時帶領其五重奏於 Red Room 939 , David Friend Recital Hall 等地方演出。2018 歸國後參與絲竹空團員培訓計畫、河岸音造等工作室擔任主題課程講師，並持續與音樂家們合作於各展演空間。
